| Tiivistelmä: | It is illustrated how game theory sheds light on a particular issue - the hypothesis of monopoly rent dissipation advanced by Richard Posner. Three different forms of rent-seeking behavior are analyzed, assuming that firms are asymmetric or nearly so. A model is presented, in which the "strategic" choice variable for the firms is the time to adopt a new technology. It is argued that the game-theoretic approach helps to illuminate the key features of these contexts, and to explain the nature of rent dissipation in each. |
