| Tiivistelmä: | The US merger boom spilled over into Europe last year. As in the USA, the upsurge in European mergers and acquisitions (M&A) was strategically rather than financially driven, prompted by regulatory and technological changes and aimed at reducing costs and reinforcing core businesses. The reported dollar value of crossborder transactions announced in Europe topped $88bn, up 87% from the previous year and far surpassing earlier peaks. The year saw some dramatic shifts in the sectoral pattern of European crossborder M&A. |
