| Tiivistelmä: | Gain sharing was once a tactical measure aimed largely at improving production efficiency. Some corporate leaders are now attempting to tie team-based incentive systems to corporate strategy. Basic premises of team-based pay incentives are summarized. Four major environmental factors serving as catalysts for change in the 1980s are examined (competitive pressure, deregulation in key industries, Workers' participation in production decisions, and technological changes). The Du Pont achievement sharing program is described and analyzed. A study of white-collar team-based incentives within a group of financial service firms and a group of industrial firms is reported. The risks and rewards of this ambitious incentive system are considered. |
