Tiivistelmä: | Two decades ago, a few American companies began building a new kind of manufacturing facility, one that emphasized a high level of participative management and utilized a number of new management practices. The most important characteristics of the new plants are reviewed: the selection process, plant physical layout, job design, pay system , organization structure, training etc.. Proctor and Gamble as a classic example is mentioned. It is shown how the new model has spread in the 1980s. Although the new participative plants have been and continue to be successful, they are not without problems. Central to the long-term effectiveness of all these plants is the effectiveness of self-managing work teams. The next generation of the model is indicated. |
