| Tiivistelmä: | Increased labour market flexibility and structural adjustment of the economy are objectives that are being pursued in many countries through policies that tend to undermine trade union influence. Over the past few years these goals have been achieved in Australia through a consensus-based incomes policy that has instead enhanced the influence of the trade union movement. In return for greater involvement in the policy-makin process and rapid employment growth, however, the trade union movement has accepted a large measure of wage restraint over a prolonged period, major changes in work practices designed to increase productivity and a significant tightening of government fiscal policy. |
