| Tiivistelmä: | This study examines the relation btw. ownership (here as: o-ship.) and board structure (as: b-str.) in Irish plcs. The substitution (as: subst.) and bargaining (as: bargn.) hypotheses (as: hypts.) are tested regarding effects of o-ship. on b-str. It is found that the percentage of share capital owned by executives (as: exec./execs.) is negatively related to the percentage of the board comprised of non-exec. directors and the likelihood of having a non-exec. as chairman. This is interpreted as evidence in favour of the bargn. hypts. In contrast, the evidence reported in favour of the subst. hypts. is weak. |
