| Tiivistelmä: | The political debates preceding the presidential election in May 1995 highlighted the necessity of a major French tax reform. However, after a conservative government was formed as a result of the election, it became clear that because of the size of the deficit, priority should be given to increasing tax revenue before attempting any major reform. These goals were reflected in the two amendment laws and in the law of 1996 the government submitted to parliament. This note summarizes the tax changes and looks at the future plans of the French Government. |
