| Tiivistelmä: | This article argues that the study of the relationship btw. organizational design and safety has been largely neglected. Substantial progress has been made in social sciences by considering taking workers' practices and associated social inventions into account. By and large, the human factor community has also championed the view that for the sake of safety, individuals have regularly reinterpreted rules, procedures and formal organizations. It is suggested that the hazard and the on-going debate in which the community seems stuck might benefit from a new look at organizational design. |
