Tiivistelmä:After a brief survey of the empirical literature for the UK on the relative wage effects of trade unions, the authors' purposes are the following: The problems posed by union endogeny and employment endogeny are addressed in the case of females by the estimation of a bivariate probit model that allows for the simultaneous determination of union and employment status. A limited information maximum likelihood approach is employed to correct the individual sectoral wage equations for the potential presence of selection bias as channelled through either union or employment status. In addition, participation selection is corrected using the inverse Mill's ratio. The econometric model is outlined and the dataset used is given.
