Tiivistelmä:They may have lost their regal rights and much of their property, but India's erstwhile maharajas aren't suffering too badly in the modern age. The clarion call of "Long live the maharaja" announces the arrival of the "great king". Thousands greet him as he rides through the center of town mounted on an elephant. The nobility pay obeisance with joined palms and the peasantry swoop to touch his feet. When the sun sets, it is bara khaana, or open house, in the royal darbar hall. Every chandelier and crystal lamp is lit as sumptuous meals are served and troupes of dancing girls perform.
