| Tiivistelmä: | This paper considers capacity expansion problems for a class of facilities which are operated from single locations. Expansions of such facilities must, therefore, occur at the locations where they were first established. Examples of these types of facilities include public facilities (hospitals, universities, highways, and airports) and private manufacturing facilities. If the demand is non-decreasing, the major planning problem in these cases is to determine the optimal times and sizes of capacity increments so as to achieve a certain cost objective. |
