| Tiivistelmä: | Since the early 1980s, many industrial countries have experienced wide fluctuations in their external positions. Recently, attention has been focused on the factors that determine competitiveness, and economists have constructed a number of measures that serve as indicators of a country's competitive position (real exchange rates). This paper provides a discussion of three indicators of competitiveness: real exchange rates based on consumer price indices, export unit values, and normalized unit labour costs in manufacturing, and makes some observations about the relationships among the indicators. |
