Tiivistelmä: | Foreign banks hurrying to open up China still face big restrictions. Otherwise local banks would quickly lose out, because they offer poor service, negligible returns and are saddled with bad debts of state-owned enterprises. Reform is coming slowly under economic supremo Zhu Rongji. The slow pace of financial deregulation within China and tight controls on chinese investment abroad have staved off any chance of depositors moving funds elsewhere. The only risk for China's banks is that time may be running out. The key figure in China's financial reform process is Zhu Rongji , vice-premier in charge of the economy and a 68-year old often described in western media as chin's economic tsar. |
