| Tiivistelmä: | In the USA employment has been rising consistently for six years now. Dependent employment rose by almost 14 million between 1991 and 1997, and unemployment has fallen to its lowest level since 1970. It has become common to talk of an American "employment miracle", the explanation for which is usually seen in the flexibility of the American labour market. Empirical analysis, however, shows that it is primarily macroeconomic factors that have led to the extraordinarily strong employment growth. |
