| Tiivistelmä: | Environmental issues are prone to conflict between competing values and interests, different groups and communities that represent them. One approach to solve this conflict is to use a common measure through which different values can be traded off one with another. This paper argues that this kind of value commensurability does not exist and that irreducible value conflict is unavoidable but compatible with rational choice employing practical judgement. |
