| Tiivistelmä: | Following the decisions reached in May of this year, the path of European Monetary Union (EMU) has now been mapped out. The diversity of small, or at most medium-sized, mainly externally oriented economies which has existed to date is turning into one large currency zone with a primarily internal economy. Irrespective of the immediate effects of monetary union the abolition of exchange rates for the large part of trade within Europe means wage policy will assume an extremely decisive role in the future for the creation and maintenance of competitiveness in individual countries. |
