| Tiivistelmä: | The paper deals with the importance of foreign direct investment for transition economy. It is based on the research carried out in a group of the largest foreign investors in the Slovak Republic. The research was focused in particular on the benefits of these firms for Slovakia's economy, success of their business activities, sources of their achievements, and obstacles to business in the Slovak Republic. The conclusions of the research indicate that most firms view their benefits in the implementation of new technologies, growth of investment, increasing the quality of labour force, and in know-how transfer, in particular, the managerial know-how. |
