| Tiivistelmä: | The perspectival concept of the institutional / professional "gaze" has come into currency in tourism studies during the last decade, in particular following the publication of Urry's work. (The Tourist Gaze: Leisure and travel in contemporary society, publ. Sage, London 1990). Leiper has produced a useful foundational review of Urry's debt to Foucauldian thought. The article tries to take over where Leiper left off providing a more searching critique of the power of surveillance (le regard) in tourism. |
