| Tiivistelmä: | The author deals with the tourist industry in Barbados, which has emerged as a premier Caribbean destination with tourism leading all other sectors of the economy. Theare are nearly 13 % of the labour fource in direct tourism employment, and tourism contributes nearly 15 % to GDB and 70% of foreign exchange earnings. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, signs of maturity set in - with deteriorating facilities, environmental stress and general tourism fatigue. Today, however, there is a renewed focus on tourism, and a new tourim policy has been developed. |
