Tiivistelmä: | The author states that the information gathering practices of companies such as DoubleClick and Toysmart illustrate the problems attendant to use of the Internet to collect data on web browsers. Such data gathering-whether accomplished through tracking software or the application of search bots-challenges our notion of personal privacy as well as our conventional understanding of our commercial relationships. This web-related issue, like the others, is of growing concern for today's business ethicists. With these issues in mind, this article shows how particular Internet technologies are influencing our moral standards. It then will suggest that business ethicists become more interested and involved in these issues and show how ethicists might begin to address the concerns of those caught up in today's fast-growing e-based world. |
