Tiivistelmä: | The big news behind Enron and WorldCom and Arthur Andersen's failure to blow the whistle is that, for most accountants, there is no news at all. The only difference is that the materiality of the smoke and mirrors game played by organizations and "public accountants" has finally produced a failure large enough to create a hugely visible public scandal. An informal poll of public accountants, each with significant audit experience, produced a con sistent opinion. Most of them said that audits conducted by people who are paid and influenced by those who are the subject of the audit are unlikely to produce anything but a response that best serves the interests of the paying subject. The paper also states that internal managers and accountants are the principal players to ensure that organizational performance is managed properly. |
