| Tiivistelmä: | This article evaluates couples' time use behavior with regard to housework. The data are collected from the 2001/2002 and 1991/1992 German Time Use Survey. The study aims at analyzing the determinants of of the allocation of time spent on housework as well as why gender differences in household time use behavior still exist. The results show that the decrease in time spent on housework by women seem to be explained by changes in the wages, household goods consumption and the aspiration for market goods consumption. Men's time allocation behavior has remained rather constant. Women's time allocation behavior in household work is becoming more similar to that of men. |
