| Tiivistelmä: | Patent records are a valuable source of information on inventive activity. The use of patent statistics is reviewed. Contemporaneous patent profiles of mutation/genetic engineering over the 1970s are compared and contrasted and a cumulative net cash-flow forecast is presented for the genetic engineering industry to the year 2000. The growth of this industry is discussed. A suggested technological life cycle of the genetic engineering industry is presented with background of socioeconomic,technical and scientific events. |
