| Tiivistelmä: | This analysis is based on a case study of the administration of the region Provence Cote d' Azur. It sheds light upon the pertinence of concepts and methods borrowed from the sociology of organisations. Breaking with the motivational approach, it shows that absenteeism can be understood as a consequence from the system of interaction within the organisation. Produced by the construct of collective action, absenteeism is a behavior, a rational strategy, and a tactical escapeway in a logic of specific chain reactions. To cope with absenteeism it is necessary to develop new behavioral norms in relation to work. |
