Tiivistelmä:For more than a decade Japan has been promising to open its market to U. S. products, but the U. S. trade deficit with Japan has grown at the same time. The trade deficit has meant the loss of U.S. businesses, jobs, and technology. Ways to correct this problem are discussed. Japan's market is described, and is found to be closed. The United States' most competitive exports are the same ones Japan has targeted for its own export markets. The protectionist trade policy of Japan is outlined. The U. S. must adopt a retaliatory trade policy. A fair but more effective export policy is proposed for the companies.Managers must learn from their Japanese counterparts.
