| Tiivistelmä: | The historical relationships between energy demand and economic growth are examined and a methodology for analysing the productivities of aggregate energy and major fuel sources in the manufacturing sector is developed and applied. It is demonstrated that the positive relationship between aggregate energy use and gross domestic product is undoubtedly strong. However, this relationship is not straightforward. The sector weighted productivity is calculated for the manufacturing sector and provides a better measurement of energy efficiency than the unweighted ones. Results indicate the declining energy/gross domestic product ratio in the manufacturing sector should be attributed mostly to change in industry mix. |
