| Tiivistelmä: | The recent structure of protection in the region is examined as revealed in data gathered by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. The regional trade agreements currently in force and the basic aspects of most-favoured-nation treatment and preferential approaches to trade liberalization are considered. An empirical trade analysis is described, which notably includes consideration of rentseeking by economic interests, and the results of simulating the welfare and trade effects of stylized versions of the two primary cooperative approaches to liberalizing trade are presented. The findings and conclusions of the analysis are summarized. |
