Tiivistelmä:Results from a study in Northern Ireland are summarized. Innovation is defined as improvement and development of existing and introduction of new products and production processes. It emerged from the study that product innovation was more common than process innovation, and improvement of existing products and manufacturing methods was more common than new introductions. It is also clear that there is statistically significant relationship between innovative activity and turnover change only in case of product innovation. Motives for innovation are mainly the need to develop new markets and to improve the quality of products and services.
