Tiivistelmä:Creative problem-solving techniques such as brainstorming and lateral thinking are relatively well known. A less well known set of techniques make use of the metaphor as their primary mechanism for stimulating insights into problems. Prominent amongst these techniques is synectics (TM) which has been widely applied in helping to find creative solutions to difficult problems. Literally, the name synectics , derived from the Greek, means the fitting together of diverse elements. The use of synectics is highlighted. The formation and operation of a synectics group is described. A number of other metaphor-based techniques are reviewed: analogies, nursery rhymes, fables, computer-aided idea generating.
