| Tiivistelmä: | Past, present and some future efforts in the field of Artificial Intelligence research in Japan are overviewed. Special attention is given to automatic translation, Artificial Intelligence development tools and expert systems. A particular AI development tool, SOGEN, is described, its application areas are shown and illustrated, including diagnostic systems for Chinese medicine , trouble-shooting systems for electric appliances, and a new product development system. Some lessons from AI development are summarized. |
