| Tiivistelmä: | It is examined how to achieve speed in developing a product or service which will reduce costs and give a big market share. This is done by replacing sequential with simultaneous engineering. All the team is employed together and the result will be better quality and faster production. In simultaneous engineering, both engineering and support units work concurrently on all stages of the product development cycle. The net effect is to shift the problem curve further back in the cycle, when it is cheaper to resolve. It is argued that cycle compression is particularly important for industries with a long lead time, e.g. to design and from design to delivery of a new aircraft. |
