| Tiivistelmä: | It is difficult to discuss the past and future projected growth in car fleet size in purely energy terms, important though this is, since it has major relevance as an environmental, social and planning issue. Cars may be associated with a wide range of pollution problems ranging from local smog, regional photochemical and acid emissions and global carbon dioxide pollution affecting the world's climate. Solutions to the powerful upward surge in carbon emissions from transport include higher fuel efficiency, alternative transport fuels, modal shifts, essentially a greater move towards public transport, and a reduction in the source generators of transport movements in the first place. |
