Tiivistelmä:Few USA resources are overlooked by the Japanese as they strive to enhance their R and D (research and development) through alliances, exchanges, academic chairs, and other means. Most Japanese firms recognize the importance of a vital industrial base in their strategic planning. Japanese access to USA technology takes on a number of familiar forms. One-third of the 55 corporately-endowed chairs at Massachusets Institute of Technology are from Japanese companies. Matsushita keeps abreast of current work in semiconductors and computer science through participation in the industrial affiliate programs of Stanford and the University of California at Berkeley.
