| Tiivistelmä: | Hicks (1989) addressed the question whether Britain should enter the European Monetary System (EMS) and he used this issue for a theoretical discussion of the exercise of monetary control. Although Hicks avoided any direct answer, he provided a model. The paper discusses those parta of the book which are relevant to the EMS. The authors show that the role of the central bank and the strength of the central currency are decisive. |
