| Tiivistelmä: | The question of why firms adopt a multidivisional, or M-form, organizational structure has elicited much attention in the literature on strategic choice. In the recent study the role of a previosuly neglected influence, discretionary cash, is examined. It is argued that such structure is linked to increases in a firm's levels of discretionary cash. The proposition was developed by assessing the advantages of the M-form as an instrument for directing cash, a fully fungible corporate resource, to alternative uses. Results show that the hypothesized relationship holds. |
