| Tiivistelmä: | A special case of scheduling problems is dealt with, in which N jobs have to be processed on a single machine, the jobs have the same basic processing time, but the actual processing time of each job grows linearly with its starting time. A different rate of growth is associated with each job. It is shown that the optimal policy for this case has a unique form which reduces significantly the computational effort of the optimization process. The optimal policy has a V-shape: Jobs are arranged in descending order of growth rates if they are placed before the minimal growth rate job, but in ascending order if placed after it. |
