Tiivistelmä: | The author states the students had done a lot of research on her company, Michelin, and had managed to avoid a number of grammatical mistakes and anglicisms, in spite of the fact that a number of her sources were from the American press. The error does indicate, however, a frequent attitude among many intermediate- and even some advanced-level students that acronyms are somehow universal (that is, English-based) and need not be "translated" like words, the words in the rest of the Michelin paper, from one language to another. Several approaches are found in the treatment of acronyms, or sigles, in the Business French class, from the indirect to the direct. |
