Tiivistelmä:A survey of 201 students in the 1999-2000 full-time MBA program at Cardiff Business School, Wales, U.K., revealed that the average student fluently or natively speaks 2.5 languages (including English) and has at least oral competency in 2.9 languages. The author considers the implications of these statistics with respect to business schools in America and offers personal reflections about the roles of language and culture in international business education. While the literature is divided over the need for American students of business to learn a foreign language, this article suggests that fluency in English alone, for today's MBA graduates, may not be enough to be internationally competitive.
