| Tiivistelmä: | The need for active collaboration between practitioners (managers) and researchers is emphasized. The emerging world of the manager in a diversified multinational corporation is described. A few examples of firms are provided: ASEA Brown Boveri, Nestle, IBM. Some of the competitive challenges faced by these firms are outlined: shifting patterns of trade and funds; competition for restructuring mature industries; competition for structuring an emerging industry; competition for creating industry space; protecting intellectual property and so on. The mismatch between the managerial and the academic agenda using an issue set is examined. The nature of this disconnect is captured in an indicative list of topics for research. |
