| Tiivistelmä: | The author reminds the terms of the Maastricht Treaty as it concerns economic and monetary union. Monetary union offers advantages to most European countries but there are doubts about its feasibility. The arguments, both political and economic, for an agreed monetary policy, remain as strong as ever. Eventually perhaps they will result in monetary union on broadly the lines agreed at Maastricht two years ago. But the events of the last two years show just how difficult the transition is likely to be. |
