| Tiivistelmä: | The single market measures have created 900 000 new jobs and contributed in reducing inflation by up to 1.5% (European Commission report by the end of October 1996). The work programme of the Commission fo 1997 emphasizes four priority areas with a commitment to improve efficiency of its own by rationalising, decentralising and simplifying its activities . The article presents also various areas of action, e.g. border controls, European monetary union, cars and other vehicles, company law, employment and social policy, energy, financial services, foods, health and safety, industry, information society, intellectual property, postal services, public procurement, research, state aids, taxation, telecommunication and broadcasting, technical harmonization, transport and trans-European networks (or TENs). |
