Tiivistelmä:Europe's consumer tastes are every bit as diverse as her national cultures. That facts calls into question the widespread assumption that mass production of Communitywide goods by European megafirms would be either desirable or profitable over the long haul. Rather than focus on restructuring and rationalization, firms would do well to increase the diversity of available goods and services. The basic policy proposals that form the core of the 1992 program are assessed. The proposition that increasing competition increases both efficiency and product diversity is illustrated by examples. The most important consequences for the car industry and the telecommunication industry are highlighted.
