| Tiivistelmä: | The market for fast food, as defined in this report, is worth about 5.5 bn pounds a year. Sandwich and hamburger bars are the two most important sectors of the market, accounting for over 50% of fast food sales between them. Sales have been increasing rapidly since the 1970s, encouraged by trends such as the greater participation of women in the workforce, more flexible eating habits and smaller households, but they stagnated temporarily in the early 1990s. Fried chicken restaurants have not managed to take advantage of the growing popularity of white meat. |
