Flavoured milks, skimmed milk and calcium enriched milks are the main growth sectors. The best prospects for the UK dairy industry rest with the high quality of its raw material supplies supported by the most developed third party distribution market in the EC. Substantial price increases in 1989 resulted in real value growth, though milk consumption fell. The order of priority of the market is: high-value retail or doorstep delivery; high-value products /cream, cheeses etc./; territorial and cheddar cheeses; butter and skimmed milk products. |
