| Tiivistelmä: | This paper studies issues arising in contracting with an "expert", who is uniquely qualified to acquire the pertinent information. This knowledge is personally costly to acquire and very costly to communicate. Major issues are centered on how to motivate the expert to acquire and use this expertise. To simplify the analysis we limit the managerial activity to two spheres: (i) planning and (ii) implementation. As a further limitation, we assume that communication is prohibitively costly. To solve the problem, the principal has to delegate power to the agent. |
