| Tiivistelmä: | Soviet-style communism and its clones in Eastern Europe failed, inter alia, because it was unable to maintain a trajectory of increasing productivity. While the reasons for this were multifarious, with politically induced demotivation and a critically dysfunctional economic system prominent among them, and while it is quite impossible to disentangle the impact of different factors in any precise quantitative manner, specifically technological failures appear to have played a central role in the descent of the East European economies into stagnation and then decline. |
