Tiivistelmä:Opponents of Big Bang strategies, like those implemented in Central and Eastern Europe, point to the Chinese example of gradualist transition, which has produced real GDP growth to more than 9% per annum for 17 years by now, and contrast that with the 15-70% cumulative declines in output over the past five years in East European countries and the former Soviet Union. The Chinese transition has recently become a major focus of attention because its unique combination of dynamic performance and unusual institutional arrangements challenges mainstream notions about the transition of the socialist system.
