| Tiivistelmä: | A common development in most Central and Eastern European transition countries was the decline m real economic aggregates and the increase in monetary economic aggregates following the economic liberalisation and transformation at the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s. In this article basic macroeconomic evidence is combined with firm level survey evidence for a sample of Slovenian enterprises to elucidate their linkages with payments, insolvency and finance in enterprises in economic transformation on the way to European Union accession. Macroeconomic and institutional stability and the development of supporting financial, banking and legal services are important in reducing transaction costs and providing appropriate management incentives at the enterprise level. |
