| Tiivistelmä: | This paper examines the effect of imports on the United States (U.S.) manufacturing wages using the NLSY79 data-set, estimating differential impacts on blue-collar (here as: b-c.) and white-collar (here as: w-c.) wages. Among others, it is found that rising imports put downward pressure on wages from 1979 to 1988. This correlation is valid for both b-c. and w-c. workers. Evidence suggests that imports from low-wage countries are responsible for the negative relationship btw. imports and wages, but only for b-c. wages. |
