| Tiivistelmä: | Compared to the enormous theoretical and technical potential of solar energy conversion, little use is being made so far of already developed and demonstrated solar technologies. Solar thermal and photovoltaic (PV) generators are reliable and safe, and they offer the prospect of significant fuel savings in combined solar-conventional heat hybrid power plants as well as in stand alone systems. Solar thermal power plants are close to being economic in areas with high solar irradiance. A significant reduction in cost of PV systems has already been achieved, but further reductions are still necessary. |
